Roles that are permissions, not job titles
Most software calls these personas. In BuildersBridge they are enforced on the server: seven roles, ranked, each opening a defined set of the product. A crew member cannot open receivables, and a client sees only their own project.
- PROJECT_MANAGER
Project managers
Project manager is a real role in BuildersBridge with its own access, not a job title on an invite. It opens the work: jobs, schedule, crew, daily logs, purchase orders, bills and compliance — without opening the company's payments or reports.
What this role opens - ESTIMATOR
Estimators
Estimator is its own permission level, scoped to the work of winning jobs: leads, clients, estimates, proposals, and the supplier side needed to price them. It does not open crew, invoicing or the company's reports.
What this role opens - OWNER
Business owners
Owner is the top of the permission ladder: everything the other roles see, plus the two things they do not — payments and the business reports. It is the view that answers whether the year is working, not just whether today is busy.
What this role opens - CREW
Field teams
Crew is the most restricted role on purpose. It opens the work — today's jobs, tasks, the schedule, daily logs, photos and hours — and none of the commercial side. Less to see means less to explain on the first morning.
What this role opens
Subcontractor and client are roles too. Subcontractors see the scope and documents shared with them; clients see their own project in the homeowner portal and nothing else. Neither has a page here yet because the product story for them is the client portal.
