Bring your book of business with you

Your clients, leads, suppliers and jobs move across from a spreadsheet — with every column shown to you before anything is written, and nothing sent to your customers.

What moves

Four record types come across

These are the ones a contractor needs on day one to run the next job.

Clients

Name, contact, email, phone, street address, city, province or state, postal or ZIP code and country.

Leads

Contact, company, email, phone, city, source, project type, value, pipeline status and the date the lead was first created.

Suppliers & subcontractors

Business name, contact, email, phone, city, trade, and whether they are a supplier or a subcontractor.

Jobs

Job name and number, status, budget, site address, start and due dates — linked to the client they belong to by your old system's client ID.

What does not come across

Saying this up front is the point. A migration that quietly leaves your invoice history behind is worse than one that tells you first.

  • Estimates, quotes and proposals
  • Invoices, payments and financial history
  • Documents, drawings, contracts and job-site photos
  • Change orders, purchase orders and supplier bills
  • Time entries and daily logs

Most builders keep the old system read-only for a season and run new work in BuildersBridge from the start of a job. That is usually cleaner than trying to drag half a finished project across.

How it works

Four steps, and you see everything first

Step 1

Export from your current system

A CSV of your clients or leads. Most platforms put this on the contact list or under reports — the sections below have the exact steps where we have been able to verify them.

Step 2

Upload it

Settings → Your data → Bring in data. We read the file, detect its encoding and separator, and match your column names against ours.

Step 3

Check the columns

Every column in your file is listed with what we think it is. Change anything we got wrong, drop a column, or keep it as a note on the record. Nothing is discarded without you seeing it.

Step 4

Review, then approve

You see the row count, anything that looked wrong row by row, and how many records look like duplicates — before a single row is written. Nothing changes until you approve it.

How to get your data out

Steps are shown only where we have read them in that vendor's own documentation, with the date we checked. Where we have not, it says so.

Jobber

From their help centre
  1. Open the Clients tab from the side navigation.
  2. Top right, choose More Actions, then Export Clients.
  3. Pick CSV in the pop-up. Jobber emails the file to you.
  4. Upload that file here and we will match the columns.
  • Only admin users can export the full client list.
  • Exports are capped at 1,500 rows per file — above 1,499 clients Jobber sends several files. Upload them one at a time; we skip anything already imported.
  • Client exporting is only on some Jobber plans.

Steps from Jobber's own help centre, checked 2026-09-28.

JobTread

From their help centre
  1. Open the Customers directory (Vendors and Jobs work the same way).
  2. Click the gear icon on the table view to open its settings.
  3. On the Details tab, choose Export.
  4. Upload whatever file that produces here.
  • JobTread's documentation says a table view's Details tab lets you "delete, export, or clone a view" — it does not say what file format the export produces, or whether it exports the rows or the view's configuration. Check what you get before assuming.
  • Customise the view's Fields first so the export carries the columns you actually want.
  • If the file is not a spreadsheet of your customers, tell us what it is and we will correct these steps.

Steps from JobTread's own help centre, checked 2026-09-28.

Buildxact

Not documented publicly
  • Buildxact's public help centre documents importing contacts (Contacts > Import) and exporting estimates and job costings to Excel, but we could not find a documented way to export your contact list.
  • So ask Buildxact support for an export of your contacts rather than hunting for a button — it may not be there.
  • Estimate and job costing data does export to Excel, from the settings cog on the costings screen.

Checked against Buildxact's own help centre, checked 2026-09-28.

Buildertrend

Not documented publicly
  • Buildertrend's help articles are only available to their customers, so we have not been able to confirm the exact steps.
  • Look for an export or download option on the Contacts or Customers list, or under Reports. Most platforms put it in one of those two places.
  • Whatever comes out, upload it here — we read the column names rather than requiring a particular layout.

Contractor Foreman

Not documented publicly
  • We have not confirmed Contractor Foreman's exact export steps yet.
  • Their client and lead lists are the place to look for a CSV download.

Not listed? Almost every construction platform exports a contact list as CSV. Upload whatever comes out — we match the column names rather than requiring a particular layout.

Questions

Migration FAQ

What data can I import into BuildersBridge?
Clients, leads, suppliers and subcontractors, and jobs linked to their clients. Estimates, invoices, payments, documents and photos cannot be imported — those stay in your old system as your historical record, or come across as files you keep separately.
Do you have a Buildertrend or Jobber connector?
No. Every platform goes through the CSV importer, which matches common column names from other systems rather than requiring a particular layout. We would rather say that plainly than build a connector against a schema we have not seen — an adapter written from a vendor's documentation works on the examples in it and fails on the first real file.
Will importing send emails to my clients?
No. Imported clients do not get portal access and no invitation is sent. Nothing about an import triggers notifications, texts, lifecycle emails or webhooks — migrated history is history, not live business activity.
What happens to duplicates?
A record with the same email address as one you already have is skipped. Where there is no email we compare normalised phone numbers, and name with phone or city. Anything that only looks similar is flagged for you rather than merged — combining two different customers is not recoverable, and a second record you can merge later is.
Can I undo an import?
Yes. Every imported row is traceable to the migration that created it, and a migration can be undone. Anything you have edited since the import, or that something else now depends on — a job you have invoiced, for example — is kept and listed, so undoing an import never destroys work you have done since.
Does it handle French-Canadian data?
Yes. Accented names survive, including files saved from older versions of Excel on Windows, and monetary values written the Canadian-French way — 12 500,00 $ — are read as twelve and a half thousand rather than 1.25 million.
Is there a row limit?
The Migration Center handles large files by staging the rows and importing them in the background, so you can close the browser. A file too large to process is refused with its actual row count rather than partly imported.
Can you do the migration for me?
Enterprise plans include hands-on data migration with our team. On any plan you can start a migration, send us your export files quoting its reference, and we will tell you what can come across before anything is imported.
